¡Imagina que estás buceando por primera vez y de repente tu compañero te hace un gesto que no entiendes! ¿Quiere subir? ¿Tiene un problema? ¿Quiere mostrarte una tortuga? ⛹️♂️
Cuando estamos bajo el agua, las señales manuales de buceo son nuestro lenguaje. No podemos hablar, pero necesitamos comunicarnos: para la seguridad, la orientación o simplemente para disfrutar más del momento. Aprenderlas es parte esencial del buceo desde el primer día.
En este artículo, vamos a contarte cuáles son las señales más importantes, cómo usarlas, y por qué es vital dominarlas tanto en cursos como en inmersiones guiadas.
A diferencia de otras disciplinas, el buceo tiene una ventaja: las señales son internacionales. Tanto si buceas en Tenerife como en Tailandia, los gestos principales son los mismos. Esto permite que buceadores de todo el mundo se entiendan.
Durante tu curso open water diver en Tenerife, aprenderás a usar estas señales correctamente. Algunas señales se realizan con una sola mano, otras con dos, y hay algunas que incluso implican mover la linterna en buceo nocturno 🌚 (consulta nuestro artículo de buceo nocturno en Tenerife).
Las más básicas y necesarias son:
✅ «OK»: Círculo con el índice y el pulgar. Sirve para indicar que estás bien.
⬆️ «Subir»: Puño cerrado con el pulgar apuntando hacia arriba.
⬇️ «Bajar»: Puño cerrado con el pulgar hacia abajo.
⚠️ «Problema»: Mover la mano plana en horizontal. Puedes señalar luego la zona con problema (por ejemplo, el oído o el regulador).
🔄 «Compartir aire»: Muestra tu octopus (regulador secundario) mientras haces un gesto hacia tu compañero.
Estas señales se ven en el curso PADI Scuba Diver para principiantes y se refuerzan en todos los niveles posteriores, como el Advanced Open Water.
Algunas señales se usan para indicar direcciones, especies o situaciones concretas:
🗺️ Dirección: Se apunta con el índice hacia donde quieres ir
🐠 Pez / vida marina: Muecas con la mano o dedos en forma de aleta
🚪 Alto / detenerse: Mano en alto, palma hacia fuera
Estas señales se convierten en código común cuando haces inmersiones guiadas en Tenerife. Si tu instructor te señala algo con entusiasmo, puede ser un caballito de mar, una morena gigante o incluso un pulpo escondido 🐙
Cuando buceas de noche o en entornos con poca luz, las señales con las manos pueden no ser visibles. En estos casos, usamos la linterna de buceo para:
Hacer círculos grandes en el fondo: «todo bien»
Mover rápidamente la luz arriba/abajo: «atención»
Iluminar tu propia mano para hacer una señal manual
Este tipo de técnicas se enseñan en la especialidad de buceo nocturno y también en cursos como rescue diver o primeros auxilios EFR donde la comunicación es vital para la seguridad del equipo.
Las señales manuales no son solo para avisar o comentar la fauna, sino que pueden salvar vidas en situaciones críticas. Si notas que tu compañero tiene dificultades, las señales te permitirán actuar rápido.
